How often is the data recorded? (Granularity)
The data in this tracker is tracked in monthly granularity. This means that there is a figure for every month. So you can see how this June compares with last June, or how one time period compares with another.
How often is the tracker updated?
This tracker is updated every month for the month previous by business that engage with the system.
What is the source of the data?
This data is collected provided by engaged businesses. The system creates an average from the data provided. Total visitors is also available in some systems. The more businesses that input, the more robust the sample.
What does the data tell me?
The data in this tracker tells you what the average and/or total number of visitors to participating attractions was.
Metrics
Average visitors is the only metric in this tracker, although in some systems will also have a Total Visitors option.
Important things to remember about this data…
Because this tracker is updated by multiple businesses, it’s good to come back and check throughout the month to see if the numbers change as the sample increases. The system doesn’t share with you how many businesses are included in the sample in order to maintain confidentiality of business data.
This tracker has a functionality called Constant Sample. This is set to ‘on’ by default. This means the sample of businesses included in the analysis for the time period you have selected will have consistently input data across the entire period. This prevents false peaks or dips caused by inconsistent data entry.
You can use the filter in this tracker to select a more localised region or attraction type. Bare in mind that the more filters you apply the smaller the sample is. If the sample is three of fewer the system will not represent the data on the screen and a notification will appear. As the system’s engagement increases the data will become more and more robust.
What can I filter on?
Date: to change the date range you’re viewing click on Filter and select the date range of your choice. You can also select Add comparison to compare the same location over two different time frames.
Area/location: as a default the graph will show you the average visitors to attractions across all providers combined. To view specific locations click on Filter and select the location of your choice. You can also select Add comparison to compare different locations over the same time frame.
Attraction type: you can select the type of attraction you wish to filter by. For example: you may want to focus on all museums, or gardens specifically. If you are a business that inputs attraction data you can also select your own business/es in the filter to compare.
Be sure to check you’re only changing one measurable when comparing; either time OR location OR type.
