Accommodation Tracker

Where can I find it?

In the Accommodation (Past) folder.

How often is the data recorded? (Granularity)

The data in this tracker is tracked in monthly granularity. This means that there is a figure for every month, so you can see how this June compares with last June, for example.

How often is the tracker updated?

This tracker is updated every month for the month previous by businesses that engage with the system.

What is the source of the data?

This data is provided by engaged businesses. The system creates a weighted average from the data provided to show occupancy in the region, or group of accommodation, selected. The more businesses that input data, the more robust the sample.

What does the data tell me?

The data in this tracker tells you the average occupancy rate for all accommodation types combined. You can filter the data for different accommodation types.

Metrics

The only metric measured in this tracker is occupancy rate; how full the accommodation was that month. The nearer to 100% the tracker gets, the more occupied the accommodation was.

Important things to remember about this data…

Because this tracker is updated by multiple businesses, it’s good to come back and check throughout the month to see if the numbers change as the sample increases. The system doesn’t share with you how many businesses are included in the sample in order to maintain confidentiality of business data.

You can use the filter in this tracker to select a more localised region or accommodation type. Bare in mind that the more filters you apply the smaller the sample is. As the system’s engagement increases the data will become more and more robust.

What can I filter on?

Date: to change the date range you’re viewing click on Filter and select the date range of your choice. You can also select Add comparison to compare the same location over two different time frames.

Area/location: as a default the graph will show you all occupancy from all locations added together. To view specific locations click on Filter and select the location of your choice. You can also select Add comparison to compare different locations over the same time frame.

Accommodation type: you can select the type of accommodation you wish to filter by. For example: you may want to focus on all serviced accommodation, or 2-3* hotels specifically. If you are a business that inputs accommodation data you can also select your own business/es in the filter to compare.

Be sure to check you’re only changing one measurable when comparing; either time OR location OR type.

Are there other trackers that have similar data?

The Airbnb occupancy give an indication of self catering occupancy. You should have access to view the Airbnb occupancy for a location close to your business. If you cannot see one of these please email help@swvehub.co.uk

What else should I look at in relation to this tracker?

It’s interesting to use the Cross Tracker to compare Airbnb Occupancy and Accommodation Occupancy to see if the trends (the pattern the graph takes) correlate.
